Backing
Up & Restoring
As with all database programs, backing up your data is an extremely important
procedure. In case of fire, theft or computer problems, it is always imperative
to have another copy of your data.
To perform a backup of all your Student Recipe System data:
- Set your default backup location by going to the Setup menu, selecting File
Locations and editing the System Backup Location. Click on Return to save
changes.
- If your backup location is set to 'A:\' (your floppy drive):
- Insert a blank floppy disk into your floppy drive.
- To check if it is blank, double click on your My Computer icon,
then double click on 3 1/2 Floppy (A:).
- This will show you what files you have on the disk.
- To delete any existing files, hold down the Ctrl key and press
A. This selects all files on the disk. Then press the Delete key
on your keyboard.
- Load the Student Recipe System if it is not already open.
- After you have logged in and are viewing the main screen, select the Utilities
menu and go to Backup System or click on the Backup button
on the toolbar.
- Click on the Backup button. You will see a file dialog with a generated
file name made up of the current time and date.
- Click on Save and the backup procedure will commence.
You will need to restore from a backup if your data has been lost or corrupted.
To perform the restore operation:
- If your backup is on a floppy disk, insert it into the floppy drive.
- Once you are inside the Student Recipe System, select the Utilities menu
and go to Restore System.
- Select the backup file from the file dialog and click on Open.
- The restore procedure will now commence.
