Section Description
As with all database programs, backing up
your data is an extremely important procedure. In case of fire, theft or computer
problems, it is always imperative to have another copy of your data. We recommend
that you set aside two floppy disks to backing up your Stock System data and backup
once a week, alternating the two disks each time. You also must ensure that your
backup location (set in Tools | Options) is set to 'A:\'.
Steps
To perform a backup of all your Windows Stock System data:
- Insert a blank floppy disk into your floppy drive.
- To check if it is blank, double click on your My Computer icon, then
double click on 3 1/2 Floppy (A:).
- This will show you what files you have on the disk.
- To delete any existing files, hold down the Ctrl key and press A.
This selects all files on the disk. Then press the Delete key on your
keyboard.
- Load the Windows Stock System.
- After you have logged in and are viewing the main screen, select the Tools
menu and go to Backup or click on the Backup button on the
navigator. You will see the screen below.
- Click on the Backup button. You will see a file dialog with a generated
file name made up of the current time and date.
- Click on Open and click on Yes to create the new file.
- The backup procedure will commence. This will take a while. The system will
tell you how many files it added - this should not be less than 23. You will
now have to exit the system.

You will need to restore from a backup if your data has been lost or corrupted.
To perform the restore operation:
- Insert the disk with the most recent backup file on it into the floppy drive.
- Once you are inside the Window Stock System, select the Tools menu
and go to Restore or click on the Restore button on the navigator.
You will see the screen above.
- Click on the Restore button and a file dialog will open, view the
backup disk.
- Select the backup file from the disk and click on Open.
- The restore procedure will now commence. You will have to exit the system
once it has finished.
- After performing a Restore, you will need to Re-Index the databases. To
do this, see Re-Indexing.
