Section Description
The Stock Group file represents groups used for categorization of the items
in the Stock file. The stock groups must have codes of only one character long.
The main use of the Stock Groups is to generate a prefix for a stock item's
part number (item number). For example, "YOGHURT, APRICOT, BROWNES, 200G'
might have an item number of D00026 because it is in the D stock group which
is DAIRY PRODUCTS.
Steps

| To get to the Stock Group File |
To get to the Stock Group File, select the File menu and select Stock
Groups, click on the Stock Groups button on the navigator.
To add a new stock group:
- Click on the New button on the database navigator, and all of the
fields shown will blank out.
- Enter a code. The code must be only one character long and must not be
the same as an existing stock group code. (The TAB key moves to the next field).
- Enter the description. Upper case is forced. Be descriptive with the types
of stock the group will be containing.
- Enter the budget allowed for that particular stock group.
- Click on the Save button on the database navigator to save changes.
Clicking Cancel will cancel all changes.

To edit data relating to a specific stock group (eg. change the name of a stock
group):
- Locate the record to edit by using List or Search (see Searching
(Lookups)).
- Alter any of the required fields.
- Click on the Save button in the bottom of the window to save changes.
Clicking Cancel will cancel all changes.
To delete an existing stock group:
- Locate the record to delete by using List or Search (see Searching
(Lookups)). If any items in the stock file use this group, it will
not be able to be deleted.
- Click on the Delete button to delete the item. Only delete groups
if you are positive that they are not needed because, if they can be deleted,
they are so immediately without any further confirmation.
To view stock group reports, click on the Reports tab located at the bottom left
of the stock groups file screen. The stock groups file provides 2 reports:
- Group Type: This report lists all stock groups in group type order.
To generate the report, click on Group Type in the report list on the left,
then click on Preview or Print.
- Description: This report lists all stock groups in description order.
To generate the report, click on Description in the report list on the left,
then click on Preview or Print.
